IT was shocking to see a photograph in this paper on May 12 wherein patients are shown sleeping on piles of iron rods in the open, awaiting their turn to be treated for their problem of urology.
These patients, mostly from Balochistan, interior Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, have beeen waiting for weeks in the scorching heat on these hot iron rods for their turn. I hope that living under the open sky does not cause other health problems for them.
No doubt SUIT is doing a great job by treating free hundreds of patients. It receives enough funds from donors for doing so.
If a small part, say five per cent, is spent from these funds on providing a facility for poor patients who are not in a position to afford living in Karachi, it will go a long way in helping them. Besides, they need to be treated in the best way possible as they are humans.
