KARACHI, May 24: A woman identified a suspected kidnapper before a judicial magistrate on Thursday and deposed that he not only abducted her but also subjected her to gang-rape along with his two accomplices.
The woman recorded her statement under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code in the court of judicial magistrate (south) where police had brought the suspect, seeking extension in his remand.
The suspect said to be enrolled as a lawyer with the Karachi Bar Association was arrested on May 21 for allegedly kidnapping his 26-year-old maid within the remit of the Darakhshan police station. The following day he was remanded in police custody.
The investigation officer informed the court that a medical examination of the woman was conducted and its report would be issued soon.
While directing the IO to submit the medical report on next hearing that would establish or otherwise the offence of rape, the magistrate granted two-day extension in the physical remand of the suspect.
According to the prosecution, the suspect abducted his housemaid on May 19. A couple of days later the police recovered the woman and arrested the suspected kidnapper.
A case was registered against the suspect under Section 365-B (kidnapping or inducing woman to compel for marriage, etc.) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Darakhshan police station on a complaint of the victim’s brother.
‘Militants’ remanded to prison
A judicial magistrate remanded on Thursday three suspected militants to prison in a number of cases.
Sikandar Ali, Sajid Ali and Mohammad Anwar said to be associated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan were apprehended by Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on May 17 in Bin Qasim for allegedly keeping explosive substance and illicit weapons. Later they were remanded in police custody.
When the police produced the suspects in the court of a judicial magistrate on Thursday, the court sent them to prison on judicial remand till June 2 and directed the investigation officers to file a charge-sheet in court against them.
A case (FIR 95/12) was registered against the suspects under Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act on the behalf of the state at the Bin Qasim police station. They were also individually booked under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.
