ISLAMABAD, May 24: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has suggested the names of Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim and Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid as the party’s nominees for the office of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

This was announced by Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and PML-N  leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan at a news conference here on Thursday.

The PML-N leader said that he would soon be submitting these names to the Parliamentary Committee on the Appointment of CEC headed by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah. Justice Shakirullah Jan is presently the acting CEC and is scheduled to retire in August this year.

Chaudhry Nisar said that he had consulted the other opposition parties inside and outside the parliament, including Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf and claimed that there was near consensus among the opposition parties on the names proposed by the PML-N.—Staff Reporter
