RAWALPINDI, May 23: An old man was shot and injured by armed robbers while trying to save his one-year-old grandson from being taken away by the robbers.

On finding no valuables and cash, the robbers intended to kidnap the infant in Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, police said on Wednesday.

Waqasur Rehman complained to the Pirwadhai police that the door bell of his house rang and as he opened the door, he found two unidentified young men standing outside. They forced their way into the house and later pulled out pistols. They threatened to kill the family members if cash and valuables were not given to them, he added.

He further said: “On seeing the gunmen, I asked them to take whatever they want from the house but we had no cash.”  He added he was stunned when the gunmen replied that they were taking away his grandson.

On hearing this, Rehman pounced upon the gunmen to prevent them from taking away his grandson but he was shot and injured.

Station House Officer (SHO) Pirwadhai police station Raja Abdul Rasheed when contacted said: “The robbers hardly remained in the house for ten minutes and later escaped.”
