THE picture of candidates appearing in an examination for induction into Rescue 605 in Lahore is simply disgusting (May 16). The candidates have been forced to sit on the ground under scorching sun and asked to solve their paper. The sight was heart-wrenching and blood-curdling.

Has Shahbaz Sharif’s government in Punjab become so poor that it could not arrange a shelter, desks and chairs to conduct the said examination in a manner fitting the dignity of human beings? I suppose there was no arrangement for drinking water either in such a dry and sultry weather. Shabaz Sharif claims that he is serving the people but the pathetic spectacle at the said examination centre speaks volumes of his insensitivity and a loss of touch with ground reality.
