KARACHI, Dec 11: Gas injection into the 20-inch diametre pipeline of Sui Southern Gas Pipeline Limited resumed from the Sui gasfield at 7pm Wednesday.

The pipeline was ruptured at Shahiwah canal near Shikarpur on Tuesday.

The gas line will be packed by 7am Thursday to fully normalize the system and then normal gas supply will be restored to the customers, including all industrial and power plants.

An SSGC repair team, along with material and equipment, arrived at the damaged site about midnight on Dec 10.

The repair work and replacement of the damaged pipeline have been completed and joints has been tested through radiography and found okay, says a press release of the SSGC.

An SSGC health, safety and environment team, assisted by the local police, bomb disposal squad and civil defence, have made their initial reports. A detonation expert from the Pakistan Army has been flown in from Islamabad, who will make his independent report on the cause of the rupture.
