PESHAWAR, Dec 11: An accountability court here on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of a key leader of JUI(F), Haji Ghulam Ali, due to his non-appearance before the court.

Mr Ali is accused in a corruption reference and facing trial before the accountability court No 4 presided over by Miftauddin Khan.

He was recently released on bail by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, but he failed to appear before the trial court on Wednesday, the day fixed for proceedings in the reference.

The court waited for his appearance till the closing hour, but he did not turn up after which the presiding officer decided to issue his arrest warrants. The court has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Peshawar, to produce the accused on the next hearing.

Mr Ali is facing the trial along with 12 of his associates for possessing assets of Rs305 million which is disproportionate to his known sources of income, a crime under section 9 of the National Accountability Bureau Ordinance. He had also been a councillor of the Peshawar Municipal Corporation.
