KARACHI, Dec 11: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan will receive the first consignment of 32 large-size modern buses, which will arrive at Karachi port from Sweden on Thursday.

Speaking at an Eid Milan reception organized by North Nazimabad Town last night, the City Nazim said minibuses and coaches could not meet the transport requirements of any big city. As such, he said, the city government had formulated a far- reaching and coordinated transport policy, implementation of which has started and a big change would come in the next few years.

He asked the local transporters to pay attention on this sector and bring in large-size buses for a better transport system.

Referring to the menace of beggary, Naimatullah Khan said the ongoing anti-beggars campaign would continue. He said the city government had contacted the city’s philanthropists, seeking their cooperation in case a plan was implemented for rehabilitation of the deserving beggars.

He said the city government was considering possible ways and means which may help eliminate the menace for ever and a policy in this regard would be announced soon.

The Nazim said that the city government was prepared to pay honoraria to all councillors from its own resources, provided the Sindh government accorded its approval.

He observed that many councillors were financially weak and, therefore, there should be honoraria for them. He said he would raise this issue at his next meeting with the governor.
