KARACHI, Dec 11: The Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance, Shaukat Aziz, on Wednesday dropped broad hint of government reviewing the decision on import of re-conditioned cars.

“It is a valid point,” Shaukat Aziz remarked spontaneously on a complaint of a local business leader. The businessman complained that despite a fall in dollar’s exchange value the motor car assemblers have not brought down the prices of the car. He quoted reigning prices of cars of every make and model being assembled in the country.

He accused car assemblers of demanding 100 per cent cash payment but do not deliver the booked car even in six months period. He, therefore, pleaded that there was all justification of importing re-conditioned cars in the country.

The Adviser remarked that there was no apparent justification for holding back delivery of booked car even in six months after getting all cash payment. He recalled that the previous government had called a meeting of car assemblers who had then promised to accelerate the delivery pace of booked cars.

He said the Industries Ministry is now studying the case and is expected to take some decision on this issue.
