CHARSADDA, May 14: An attempt to blow up Charsadda police lines building was foiled after the bomb disposal squad defused an explosive device here on Monday.

Police said one of their officials spotted a wire connected with an explosive device that was hidden in cement blocks, while moving down the lawn, and raised the alarm.

They said BDS was immediately called for help and it sent in a team, which defused the explosive device.

Police the device weighing two to three kilogrammes was to be exploded by making a call to the cellphone SIM card attached to it.

They said they had begun investigation into the sabotage bid after registration of a case against unidentified terrorists.

Meanwhile, Taragzai tribal elders on Monday rejected the inclusion of their 25 villages from Shabqadar area in Charsadda settled district and demanded that the administration of local schools and health centres be placed under the control of Mohmand Agency administration.Haji Mohammad Khan told a news conference in Shabqadar area that people of 25 Shabqadar villages bordering Mohmand Agency were opposed to the merger of their villages with Charsadda district.

He said the said villagers would resist any attempt to give the control of local schools to Charsadda administration.

The elder said in 1999, the government had to withdraw its plans to merge these villages with Charsadda due to strong opposition by their residents.

He demanded merge of these villages with Mohmand Agency and urged the president, prime minister, provincial chief minister and governor to step in for the purpose.

Meanwhile, bundles of wheat on Monday turned to ashes after an 11,000kv power transmission line fell on them in a Charsadda village.

Villagers said their repeated requests to the relevant Pesco officials for repair of the swinging power line fell on deaf ears and as a result, a local grower had to suffer a great loss after his wheat yield burnt down.

They demanded early repair of the power line to prevent future losses.
