LAHORE, May 13: The Pakistan People’s Party on Sunday took out another rally from Nasser Bagh to Data Darbar to express solidarity with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The PPP’s Punjab and Lahore chapters organised the show while over a week ago Aslam Gill, special assistant to the premier, had led a rally from the same venue.

A PPP insider informed Dawn that there had been internal rift among the party’s local leadership as the provincial and city office-bearers wanted to put up a better show than the one led by Mr Gill.

The participants chanted slogans in favour of the party leadership and against the Sharifs and the Supreme Court verdict. The PPP women wing and MPAs also participated in the rally.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP Punjab president Imtiaz Safdar Warraich claimed his party would take back Lahore from the PML-N and force the Sharifs to quit Lahore.

President Zardari’s Punjab Coordinator Navid Chaudhry said the successful rally had exposed the PML-N’s false claim that Lahore was its stronghold.

“Lahore has given its verdict in favour of the PPP,” he said, adding the PPP would protect the Constitution. He said the PPP would expose the PML-N’s corruption in laptop scheme, ring road contracts and other projects.
