Pictures of writers

I’m an old reader of YW and I eagerly wait for every Saturday to read it. I love almost everything and Golden words and Cover stories are my favourites.

I would like to suggest to the YW team to include pictures of the contributors with their articles/stories. This will make them more dedicated to their contribution.

The strangest taxi ride

This is with reference to the story The strangest taxi ride by Muzna Fauad (YW, April 14, 2012).

The story truly reflects the imaginative bend of the writer’s mind. The writer has created a realistic view of shopping in the beginning and then a sudden strange experience inside the taxi was really wonderful. However, the story had a quick end which didn’t feel right. If the taxi ride scene had been given in more detail, it would have made the story more enjoyable.

An ancient adventure

This is regarding the story An ancient adventure, by Muhammad Maaz Munir (YW, April 7, 2012). I really liked this adventurous story. It also gave a lesson that if we are given any assignment, we should check the libraries and read books for references in order to make our assignment a better one!

Long stories

I am an old reader of YW and love reading each and everything in it. It is the only magazine which makes us, the children, happy. However, I would like to request the YW team to shorten the stories as sometimes they are very long and while reading them, we often lose interest therefore, jump to some other section.

Obese children

This is with reference to the article Healthier choices by Gulrukh Tausif (YW, April 14, 2012). It was a very useful article since obesity among children is becoming the biggest issue these days in our country with the advent of uncountable fast-food restaurants in every nook and corner of the cities like Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.

The rapid move from traditional home-cooked food to snacks full of saturated fats or high cholesterol is a big health hazard.

In addition, technology, TV and virtual games have made matters worse and contributed in children becoming couch potatoes at home.

In the past, most children would go out in the evening to play cricket or other games, however, now are children not as interested in playing such games. Thus, the unhealthy lifestyle is not just making children fat but also making them lethargic and unable to walk for long distances, as opposed to the older generation.

The real ballerina

This is regarding the story The real ballerina by Sandhya Karamat Barlass (YW, April 7, 2012).

The story was written very nicely. It is true that jealousy is a very harmful emotion; I would like to ask all readers of YW to never feel proud of yourself or jealous of someone who is better than you. A good human being is one who always appreciates others for his/her good qualities and accomplishments.

Plagiarism

This is regarding the poem My box of chocolates written by Syeda Ovaesh (YW, May 5, 2012).

The writer has copied the poem from a school’s annual magazine, Generian, 2007-2008, and the original writer of the poem is Ayesha Nasir. This is an act of plagiarism and I strongly condemn it.

I would advise Syeda Ovaesh to please do not copy anything from somewhere and publish it with one’s own name.
