LAHORE, May 6: Bay colt Elegance lived up to his bloodline superiority by winning the Labour Day Cup during the first Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Elegance was given a powerful ride by jockey Munir Hussain to score his second straight win by two lengths from Zahid Rashid-trained bay mare Tee Star with dark-bay Ajwa third over three lengths further behind in the 1,100 metres class V division III handicap race which was also the feature event.

In the main supporting event, the Dear Creek Plate class VI division III contested over 900 metres, bay colt Pari Packer, ridden by jockey Shakeel Mahmood, came with a late burst of speed to win by half-a-length from Brave Zoia partnered by jockey M. Hanif.

But while overtaking Brave Zoia in the straight, Pari Packer had crossed towards the rails seriously obstructing the running of Brave Zoia.

After the race Hanif lodged an objection against Pari Packer which was upheld by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards with the winner disqualified and the race awarded to second-placed Brave Zoia. Super Chandi and Aboor completed the frame among a dozen runners.

In the second race, bay filly Mastani and bay horse Shollay crossed the finishing post locked together and so close was the finish that even the magic eye of camera failed to separate both who dead-heated for the first spot.

Trainer Latif Butt hit a purple patch sending out three winners in Chal Samney, Gee Gee and Brave Zoia in the nine-race card.

Hanif rode home a brace of winners through Gee Gee and Brave Zoia, both owned by Khawaja M. Atif.
