KARACHI, May 3: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the list of officers repatriated to their parent departments and directed the chief secretary to submit in court a complete and comprehensive list of the officers inducted on deputation in different departments of the provincial government.

A two-member bench comprising Justices Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Amir Hani Muslim was seized with the hearing of suo motu petition against the officers on deputation in Sindh.

The bench also discharged a show-cause notice issued to the chief secretary in contempt proceedings against him for defying the apex court’s order for the repatriation of all officers on deputation to their parent departments.

Chief Secretary Raja Mohammed Abbas appeared in court and extended an unconditional apology saying that all officers on deputation had been sent back to their parent departments.

He informed the court that there were in all 316 officers on deputation and only seven of them were retained by the provincial government in view of the lack of technical expertise in their respective fields.

The chief secretary assured the court that the seven remaining officers would also be repatriated to their parent departments as soon as the provincial government found their replacements.

The bench observed that the provincial authorities had not submitted the genuine list of officers on deputation and directed the chief secretary to file a complete and comprehensive list of the officers repatriated to the parent departments.

The bench will take up the matter on Friday.
