With her debut album Jalan and an array of interesting videos already under her belt, Schaz Khan recently launched her latest music video, Beeti Baatein, at the Base Rock Café in Karachi. Well-known media personalities such as models Eshita Mehboob, Saima Azhar, Areeba Habib were there, along with make-up artiste Angie Marshal who has styled the singer in the video.
The video is performance-based and sees Schaz singing and laughing while strumming the guitar throughout. Describing the concept, she told Images on Sunday, “The song is about the present and of happiness. It sends across the message that you can’t make everyone happy. People will remain jealous of your success and the love that you have in your life, but it should not stop you from enjoying life to the fullest.”
She says the song is also a dedication to her family and friends who are very important to her. The screening was followed by a request unplugged performance and Schaz brought the house down with some sizzling numbers taken from her soon-to-be released second album: Bikhray Jaa Rahe Hain which has strong lyrical content and speaks about the vulnerability of love. Dil Se Dil is a soft romantic ballad decorated with mellow guitar strums while Teri Pyaas, her proposed next video, concluded the gig on a high note.
Schaz has had somewhat of a controversial image with her videos Jalan and Naya Pyar. She says, “People are more concerned about my personal life. They make up stories and target me. They spice up all that they hear and spread it around like Chinese whispers. I used to give a hoot in the past but not anymore. People are more worried about what’s going on in other people’s lives. We should learn to mind our own business so that we can move ahead. The spotlight that I am in has always attracted controversy, but now I have added disco lights to it and I’m having fun, baby.”
About the music scene, Schaz adds, “It’s all really messed up. Only a crazy person like me spends and invests in music anymore. There is dirty politics everywhere.”
In recent times, it has been quite challenging for artistes and bands to survive. And it’s especially tough for female artistes. Schaz acknowledges by saying, “It’s not easy to survive here. But I have and it’s like riding out a storm. I have an amazing support group that comprises my family and friends who stand by my side come what may.”
Schaz describes her music as “rock pop” and she is enjoying studio versions as well. About her future plans she says, “I will keep making music no matter what as this is what I was born to do. I’ll take whatever life throws my way in the process.
“The Beeti Baatein music video is for everyone to hear and dance to, and if they follow my advice in it then their life will become much less complicated,” she adds.
