LAHORE, April 26: A 51st minute goal by Shamza helped Sindh to edge out Balochistan 2-1 as three matches were decided on the first day of the National Women hockey championship at the National Hockey Stadium’s outer ground here on Thursday.
Rozena put Balochistan 1-0 ahead by scoring an early goal in the third minute of the match through a field attempt.
That slim lead remained intact till the breather.
Sindh came out with different strategy in the second session and turned the tables over the rivals.
First, their Sadaf hit the equaliser in the 39th minute, also cashing in on a field attempt, before Shamza fired the winner in the 51st minute to seal the fate of the match.
Earlier, two-goal Ayesha Yousuf guided Punjab Colours to 4-1 win against Pakistan Board.
The score was 1-1 at the end of the first half.
Gulnaz Parveen drew the first blood for the losing side by scoring a field goal in the 2nd minute.
Twenty minutes later Maida Alam earned the equaliser through a field attempt.
Then Ayesha pumped in her first goal in the 42nd to give Punjab 2-1 lead.
Kulsoom Munir increased the lead 3-1 in the 57th minute and then Ayesha found the net for her second goal in the 64th minute to complete the tally.
Reigning champions Wapda registered 2-0 win against Punjab Whites with Iram scored both the goals in the 10th and 62 minutes each.
