ISLAMABAD, Dec 9: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched a Rs39.78 million project to develop science laboratories and library at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore.

According to an official statement, the project had already been approved by the government with an aim to boost teaching and research facilities at the university by providing equipment, books and consumables to the laboratories of biological and environmental sciences, chemistry, physics and electronics.

The infrastructure will also be improve for better training and research.

A modular approach has been adopted so that the financial input shows immediate results rather than dissipating the resources.

Areas of strength in different universities/centres/degree awarding colleges have been identified for augmenting the available resources for research output, while the applied and basic sciences have been chosen for improving the academic standards.

Highly sophisticated instruments and equipment will be acquired for research and training programmes. The students, faculty members and research scientists will benefit from the improved facilities in teaching, training and research work.

A major part of the finances will go to the laboratory equipment, which has been provided to general universities during the last 30-35 years.

The universities were not able to add or replace equipment out of their normal budget or development grants due to resource constraints.
