LAKKI MARWAT, April 25: Police arrested two fleeing prisoners of Bannu jail from a Karachi-bound passenger bus here on Wednesday.

A police official said that following a tip-off a police party stopped a passenger bus going to Karachi from Bannu near Serai Gambila and arrested two prisoners, Umar Daraz and his son Noor Daraz. He said that the two had escaped from Bannu jail after militants attacked it on the night of April 14.

“Umar Daraz and his son were under-trial prisoners in a case of kidnapping and killing two minor children in Bannu,” the official said and added that both were handed over to the Bannu police.

Meanwhile, an official said that police had arrested five people and recovered illegal weapons from their possession in a village bordering the frontier tribal region.

He said that officials of elite force and anti-terror squad took part in the operation to arrest members of alleged criminal gangs.

POLIO CAMPAIGN: Frontier Region Lakki assistant political agent Fayyaz Khan has called upon the tribal chiefs and officials of political administration to fully support the health teams to make the polio eradication campaign a success.

During a visit to several fixed centres in the tribal region on Wednesday, the APA checked the process of vaccination of children and availability of vaccine in health centres.

He asked the field teams to ensure access to children in each and every house in the tribal region. He also visited the control room set up in Tajori town and directed the officials concerned to inform the political administration if they faced any problem. Mr Khan said that the administration would not tolerate any negligence and added that all government officials should do their duty with honesty. — Correspondent
