RAWALPINDI, April 25: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and Motorway police jointly foiled a bid to smuggle large quantity of charas abroad and intercepted a container carrying 3,320kg of it at Lillah Interchange on Wednesday arresting the driver, it was learnt.

Deputy Director ANF, Agha Sabah, when contacted, confirmed to Dawn it was a joint operation conducted by the ANF and Motorway police in the light of intelligence reports that an attempt of smuggling narcotics to foreign lands via Lahore would be made by some unidentified persons.

He said, following the intelligence reports, a raiding party was constituted that intercepted a container coming from Peshawar at Lillah Interchange and forced its driver to stop the vehicle.

Agha Sabah further said: “During search, a large quantity of charas concealed in the secret cavities of the container was recovered. The container belonged to a private company.”

He added the truck driver, later identified as Zafarullah, was arrested and a case was registered against him. During initial interrogation, he revealed that he was assigned the duty to take the container to Lahore Dry Port but he was not aware of the nature of consignment and knew nothing about its owner.
