HYDERABAD, April 23: The management of a private school chain did not allow a government team to administer polio drops to its students on Monday.

After waiting for some time, the team got in touch with the additional commissioner of Hyderabad, Abid Saleem Qureshi. But he too failed to persuade the management to let in the polio team. “I had to wait for several minutes before being allowed to go inside and meet the principal,” said the ADC.

“The team kept waiting in another room of the school and finally returned without administering polio drops.”

Mr Qureshi said the management contended that it was under instructions not to allow any government team to administer polio drops to its students.

He said a complaint would be made to the Sindh chief secretary so that the matter can be addressed at the highest level.

The additional commissioner said no action could be taken against the school for now since its refusal did not constitute an offence.

“But currently a bill is under consideration in the National Assembly so that cases of refusal can be dealt with,” he added.
