KARACHI, Dec 9: Despite three-day Eid holidays followed by a Sunday off, thin office attendance was witnessed in the city on the first working day on Monday.

Though, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan and DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha reached their offices in the Civic Centre as per routine, a majority of the EDOs, other officers and a large number of staff failed to show up.

Similar position was witnessed in various offices of the provincial government and even at some hospitals.

Not only a large number of doctors and paramedics were reported absent at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but even the presence of patients was well below the daily average.

Nevertheless, most of those who came to their offices spent a large part of their time exchanging Eid greetings and sharing tea.

One of the few staff who had arrived at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital remarked that “it has become our culture to consider the last and the first working days as undeclared holidays or spending them idly.—PPI
