ISLAMABAD, April 21: One person was killed and two others were injured apparently in a sectarian clash in front of the Aabpara police station on Saturday.

According to police, some four days back activists of a religious sect hoisted an Alam at Shah Sakhi Mehmood Shrine at Aabpara which provoked the members of the opposite sect who uprooted it on Friday.

The police sealed the shrine on the orders of the area magistrate to defuse the tension.

On Saturday, the police said some activists of one of the groups were standing in Argentina Park when two motorcycle riders pulled up and fired multiple shots at the gathering.

As a result, Khalid Waheed Abbasi, Abdul Aziz and Mohammad Sajjad Iqbel suffered injuries. They were shifted to hospital where Waheed Abbasi died. The injured were stated to be out of danger.

The police said when they heard the gunshots

they rushed out of the police station and saw three persons lying in a pool of blood and two others in black dress escaping on a motorcycle.

Police said they had already got the shrine vacated from the pilgrims on Friday when the Alam was uprooted. Besides, it was cordoned off to avoid entry of any one from the sectarian groups.

The police said a cross FIR had been registered against the activists of the two groups.
