KARACHI, April 17: A man and his young son were among three people killed in an armed attack on a roadside shop in the city’s North Nazimabad area on Tuesday night.

Another son of the man was injured in the attack.

According to police, gunmen on a bike opened fire on people sitting at the teashop in Block-Q of the area, injuring Salah Dost and his two sons 25-year-old Matiullah and Bilal and two others identified as Nazar Mohammad and Mohammad Abbas.

“They were taken to the Abbassi Shaheed Hospital, where Salah Dost, Matiullah and Abbas died during treatment,” said a police official.

SP North Nazimabad Tanveer Alam Odho said the victims were residents of the same area and they used to sit at the shop till late night. The attackers were on a motorbike, but their motive was not yet clear, he added.

In Malir, a police constable was arrested for injuring a shopkeeper.

According to officials, Dil Nawaz had a quarrel with a cellphones shopkeeper over some personal issue which turned violent.

After some heated arguments, the constable allegedly fired shots leaving the shopkeeper injured and ran away.

Soon after the incident, traders of the area blocked the National Highway by burning tyres in protest.

“Traffic on roads linking the National Highway and Sharae Faisal remained blocked for almost two hours,” DSP Malir Rao Iqbal said, adding that the traders ended their protest after the constable had been arrested.

The shopkeeper was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors said his condition was stable.
