KARACHI, Dec 8: Various parts of the city will either go dry or receive scant supply of water on Monday due to the incessant power breakdown at the KWSB’s Dhabeji (Phase II) pumping station.

The breakdown, attributed to cable faults at two places at the pumping station, occurred at 11.30am on Sunday and caused a shortfall of about 35 million gallons of water to the city, an official of the KWSB said.

Since power supply to the facility could not been restored till 9pm on Sunday, the entire city would experience impact of the short supply on Monday, he added.

Explaining the situation, he said that one of the cable faults had been detected and removed but the other one could not be detected till 8.30pm on Sunday hence there was no possibility of rectifying the problem and restoring power supply by Monday morning.

SHORTAGE: Different parts of the city faced an acute water shortage during Eid holidays.

The hard-hit areas included parts of Old Town and Lyari, Ranchore Line, Kharadar, Mithadar, Pak Colony, Buffer Zone and Clifton’s blocks 2 and 5.

Meanwhile, the localities which would go dry on Monday, as part of the KWSB plan of diverting Indus water to the areas hooked to the Hub Dam’s dried reservoir, include all blocks of Federal B Area, North Nazimabad, Buffer Zone, Nazimabad and Shadman Town.
