ISLAMABAD, April 6: Five men were arrested by Shahzad Town police on Friday for their alleged involvement in the gang-rape of two schoolgirls on Wednesday.

The accused were nominated by the victims, a senior police officer said, adding that preliminary investigation suggested that the victims were not abducted at gunpoint as one of the accused claimed that a girl was his friend.

The sources said the arrests were made from different parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi during raids conducted under the supervision of SP Mohammad Ilyas.

The accused would be produced in the court to seek their physical remand.

In their preliminary statements, one of the accused claimed that he had friendship with one of the victims, the sources said, adding that he took his friend and the other girl to a property office in Arno Thandapani in the limits of Koral police station where he along with his friends raped them.—Staff Reporter
