Fooling around with museums

Published March 30, 2012

Prolific art forger, Mark A. Landis, has tricked the museum world over the past three decades with his convincing but counterfeit works of art. He reportedly never took money for his works, preferring to donate them to unsuspecting museums in elaborate scams of philanthropy. He has never been arrested, and his works have been collected into an exhibit of their own that goes on display on April Fool's Day. With a good dose of wry humour, this University of Cincinnati exhibit will explore the problem of art forgery through the unusual story of Landis. – Photos by AP
