LAHORE, March 24: Senior journalist Hamid Javed died of multiple organs failure caused by a tumour on Saturday. He was 53.

Javed, daily Jang’s education reporter, was admitted to Mayo Hospital some three weeks ago as he was suffering from liver cirrhosis precipitated by tumour ultimately leading to a heart attack which caused his death.

He is survived by a widow, two sons and two daughters.

His funeral prayers were held at Dyal Singh College ground and attended by hundreds of people belonging to all walks of life. He was buried in Iqbal Town graveyard in the presence of hundreds of mourners.

Qul will be held at his Nisbat Road residence after Zohr prayers on Sunday (today).

Meanwhile, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, ministers, educationists and newsmen have expressed grief over his death.

The Lahore Education Reporters Association general body has also condoled his death, and decided to hold a reference to pay a tribute to his services to journalism in general and education in particular.
