SRINAGAR, March 22: A suspected militant died in Indian-held Kashmir on Thursday when explosives he was carrying in his car detonated by accident, police said. Twenty-five bystanders were injured.
The blast occurred on a busy main road in the town of Bijbehara, 50km south of Srinagar.
“The driver of the car was killed when explosives he was carrying in his vehicle went off,” a police officer said.
Several of the wounded were taken to hospital, one of whom was seriously injured, he said.
Militant groups in the disputed region have fought against New Delhi’s rule for more than 20 years, killing security men as well as some civilians.—AFP
