ISLAMABAD, DEC 4: The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) has challenged ISPR Director-General Maj-Gen Rashid Qureshi to publish immediately the alleged written agreement under which former premier Nawaz Sharif was exiled along with his family for 10 years.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, PML-N Central Information Secretary Mohammed Siddique-ul-Farooque strongly condemned Gen Qureshi’s latest remarks in which he claimed that the Sharifs could not return to Pakistan. Mr Farooque termed the statement a pack of lies.

He said Mr Qureshi had repeatedly mentioned the existence of some such document including a signed apology by Nawaz Sharif, but whenever mediamen asked him to show or publish the evidence, he declined.

The media had also it on record that former interior minister Moinuddin Haider had denied the existence of any such agreement about the exile of the Sharifs. The then president Rafiq Tarar had also confirmed that no such pact was made in this matter, he said.

The PML-N leader alleged that Gen Qureshi and others were fabricating tales to gloss over the unconstitutional and illegal measures of the military regime against the Sharifs.

He said Gen Musharraf had himself provided a proof of his vendetta against the Sharif brothers when he recently stated that if Shahbaz Sharif landed in Pakistan, he would be sent back by the next flight.

Shahbaz Sharif had challenged Gen Musharraf to swear in Kaaba if his claim about an exile agreement was true, but no one took the challenge, added the PML-N leader said.

Mr Farooque also invited the attention of the Jamali government towards the fact that Gen Qureshi being a government servant was violating the law by making political statements.
