ISLAMABAD, March 13: The capital police arrested a serving armyman after recovering hand grenades and SMG (submachine gun) bullets from his possession.
The police on Tuesday said Sepoy Sohail Zafar was deployed on the frontline in tribal areas and was coming home in Rawalpindi on a month leave.The police on suspicion intercepted him at a checkpoint in Sadat Colony, Golra, and recovered three hand grenades and 370 rounds of SMG from his luggage.
He was taken to the Golra police station where a case was registered against him under the explosives act and arm ordinance after he failed to satisfy the investigators about the presence of the grenades and bullets in his luggage.
However, during interrogation, he claimed that the ammunition and grenades were stolen from the artillery for personal use, the police said.
The investigators, however, suspected that the ammunition and grenades were stolen for sale.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested 13 outlaws and recovered weapons, liquor and valuables from their possession.
The Golra, Margalla and Nilor police took into custody three persons and recovered 30-bore pistols along with seven rounds. The Bhara Kahu and Aabpara police arrested two alleged thieves each and recovered five stolen mobiles from them.
The Margalla police raided a hideout of robbers in G-9/1 and arrested three alleged outlaws. The Aabpara police also arrested a bootlegger and recovered two bottles of wine from them.
The Sabzi Manid police arrested two Afghan nationals - Amanullah and Mohammad Riaz - after they failed to produce any traveling documents.
