KARACHI, Dec 3: Tenders for reconstruction of Rashid Minhas Road from Askari petrol pump to the Nipa roundabout have been invited and it is expected that work on the project will begin soon, while recarpeting work on Jauhar Road, leading to Gulistan-i-Jauhar, will also start shortly, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan said.

Speaking at an iftar dinner hosted by Al-Khidmat Welfare Society in Faisal Cantonment on Monday evening, he said a recreation park would be built in Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block 13 and route of CNG buses would also be extended to the area so that the residents could benefit from the modern mode of transportation. He also announced to install a traffic signal at Jauhar intersection.

The Nazim said that issues of water, drainage and clearing of storm-drains would take time to be solved as the area was within the jurisdiction of the Faisal Cantonment Board.

He said the city was divided into different islands which were owned by different agencies. “When I was elected City Nazim, I thought as such, but later I realized that other agencies were also claiming their ownership and rights on their respective areas. But in my view, since I am the elected representative of the people, it is my duty to take care of all the residents and solve their problems,” he added.

This is the reason why I concentrate on the problems of areas which are situated even within the boundaries of the KPT, Railways and other agencies.—PPI
