ISLAMABAD, March 2: In its ongoing efforts to provide equal opportunities to all the provinces and regions for promoting their folk cultures, Lok Virsa celebrated 'Baloch Cultural Day' on Friday.
Special programmes including Balochi songs, dance performances, music, costumes show, traditional cuisine, etc were arranged to mark the occasion.
Folk singers Jangi Khan, Taj Buledi and Sameena Khawar, Leva dancers Taj Muhammad Tajal, Yamin Salai and others entertained the audience with their performances.
Talking to media, Lok Virsa's Executive Director Khalid Javaid said that his organisation in the past took a number of initiatives for documenting and preserving the culture of Balochistan.
He said Lok Virsa introduced three-dimensional creative displays in the National Heritage Museum depicting living traditions of Balochi people.
He said Balochi folk artists, musicians and craftsmen were being given recognition at national and international level as two children's folklore societies in Sibbi were established with a view to making the youth aware of their culture. He said presence of Balochistan province were ensured at the federal capital along with other federating units during Lok Virsa's popular cultural event “Lok Mela” held in April each year.
A large number of Balochis as well as residents of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad attended the day-long activities and lauded the services of the organisers as the Baloch cultural day was celebrated in a very artistic manner.
