By-elections set for Jan 15

ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: By-elections in the 11 constituencies of the National Assembly and 19 constituencies of the four provincial assemblies will be held on Jan 15.

The Election Commission of Pakistan issued a schedule on Monday announcing that the nomination papers can be submitted with the returning officers concerned from Dec 10 to 14.

Scrutiny of the nominations will be carried out from Dec 15 to 18 while appeals against the decision of the returning officers on acceptance or rejection of the papers will be entertained on Dec 21. Last date for the withdrawal of candidature remains Dec 27.

The National Assembly constituencies where the by-elections will be held on Jan 15 are: NA-25 (D.I.Khan-cum-Tank), NA-34 (Lower Dir), NA-56 (Rawalpindi-VII), NA-74 (Bhakkat-II), NA-142 (Kasur-V), NA-163 (Sahiwal-IV), NA-187 (Bahawalpur-V), NA-201 (Ghoki-II), NA-216 (Khairpur-II), NA-229 (Tharparkar-I) and NA-242 (Karachi-IV).

Constituencies of the Punjab Assembly are: PP-8 (Rawalpindi-VIII), PP-44 (Mianwali-II), PP-47 (Bhakkar-I), PP-103 (Gujranwala-XIII), PP-110 (Gujrat-III), PP-142 (Lahore-VI), PP-147 (Lahore-XI), PP-200 (Multan-VII), PP-245 (D.G. Khan-VI), PP-247 (Rajanpur-I) and PP-295 (R.Y. Khan-XI).

In Sindh the by-elections are being held on: PS-10 (Shikarpur-II), PP-12 (Shikarpur-IV), PS-18 (Jacobabad-VI), PS-76 (Dadu-VI) and PS-86 (Thatta-III).

While PF-20 (Charsadda-IV) and PF-67 (D.I.Khan-IV) are the two constituencies of the NWFP and PB-31 (Kachhi-II) is the only one seat of Balochistan where the by-polls are being held.
