KARACHI, Feb 26: Two persons, including a worker of the Awami National Party, were shot dead in separate incidents in Orangi Town on Sunday, police said.

They said Ibrahim Khan, 33, was sitting at a shop on the ‘100-Foot Road’ in Bukhari Colony within the remit of the Orangi Town police station, when two assailants riding a motorcycle emerged there, fired at him and rode away.

The victim sustained serious wounds and died on the spot, the police added.

Orangi Town DSP Tariq Malik said the victim was sitting at a UPS repair shop where he was targeted.

A spokesman for the ANP said Ibrahim was a senior member of the party.

The body was sent to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Following the killing, tension gripped the Bukhari Colony area, where unidentified persons forced shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.

Shortly after the ANP man’s killing, another man was targeted under the Banaras flyover within the remit of the Orangi Town police station.

The area DSP said the victim was a disabled person. Unidentified assailants said to be riding a motorcycle targeted him under the flyover when he was passing through the area, he added.

He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The victim was identified as Abdul Karim, 45, the DSP said, adding that he was a resident of Orangi Town’s Sector-5.

Minor girl raped, murdered

A five-year-old girl, who had been missing for the last six days, was killed after being subjected to a sexual assault, police said.

They said the girl’s body was found in a house within the remit of the Pirabad police station in the small hours of Sunday.

They said the child had gone missing six days back when she was playing outside her home in the Muslimabad area.

After informing the police, the family started a search for her on their own, but could not find her. On Sunday at around 3am, the body of the girl was found in an abandoned house.

The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A lady medico-legal officer said the girl had been subjected to a sexual assault and the body bore torture marks as well.

Pirabad DSP Sarwar Ali said the girl had gone missing while playing outside her home in Muslimabad, a locality in Pirabad.

At around 3am, someone from the neighbourhood informed the police about the presence of the body in an abandoned house, the DSP added.

A case was registered on a complaint of the girl’s father under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 365 (kidnapping) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Pirabad police station.

Acting West-SSP Haseeb Beg said that on the suspicion of the girl’s parents, the police had picked up three persons, who were being questioned.
