Gas project started

FATEHJANG, Feb 22: A gas project was inaugurated at Ratwal some 12kms from here on Tuesday by former state minister Sardar Saleem Haider Khan.

“Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has developed the district and millions of rupees have been spent on its mega projects. We will come in power again due to our performance, Saleem Haider said.

He said the project would be completed at a cost of Rs35 million as he had received a special development grant of Rs370 million for gas projects in various villages of NA-59.

He criticised the opposition parties and said only PPP can bring the country out of crises. — Correspondent

Daily wage workers’ protest

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Protest of non-teaching daily-wage employees of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) for regularisation of their jobs continued in front of National Press Club on second day.

During day-long protest on Wednesday, not a single official of FDE and Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) visited the camp however labour union leaders and civil society activists came there to show solidarity with the protesting employees.

Talking to Dawn, general secretary of FDE non-teaching staff association Sadaqat Abbasi said it was strange that none from FDE and CADD bothered to visit the camp. He said more than 600 daily-wage employees feared that they might be sacked because of the protest. — A Reporter

Man commits suicide

RAWALPINDI, Feb 22: A man committed suicide by hanging himself in Tench Bhatta on Wednesday, police said.

According to the sources, it is the third suicide case in the area within last three days. Dil Nawaz Masih, 25, had been in distress for the last many days, his family said. However, the police said the cause of the suicide could not be ascertained so far. — Staff Reporter

Seven policemen punished

ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Seven policemen were awarded punishment for misusing confiscated vehicles, the police said on Thursday. After inquiry, the punishments were given to the policemen in the orderly room of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Operation Dr Sultan Azam Taimuri.

Inspectors Ashraf Kahut and Mohammad Asharf demoted to sub-inspectors while two-year service of Inspector Khalid Masood Akram, Sub-inspector Rana Akram, assistant-sub inspectors Alamgir and Ghulam Rasool was forfeited. Constable Abdul Waheed was dismissed from police force.

The police said during inquiry the policemen were found involved in either using confiscated vehicles or giving such vehicles on superdari to the persons other than the owners. — Staff Reporter
