ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has refused to own responsibility for a recent incident in which a student entered the box of a transformer resulting in amputation of his arms.

On February 9, Mohammad Wasay, 7, student of Shaheen School system, while playing with school fellows entered the box of the transformer in sector E-11/1 and came into contact with high tension wire.

He was taken to Pims burn centre where doctors had to amputate his arms.

The Iesco spokesman on Wednesday said the transformer was located in Multi-Professional Housing Scocitey (MPHS) E-11 and, as an interim arrangement, the power distribution network there was being maintained and looked after by its management.

He said the arrangement had approval of the competent authority and in this regard undertaking from the society had been obtained. The MPHS is a private housing society looking after the residential unit of sector E-11.

The spokesman said as per undertaking of the MPHS secretary, the society should be responsible for maintenance, replacement of defective/damaged equipment, material tripping safety for interim period till such time the system is taken over the by the electric company. Dawn

"As the system has been laid down by the society at their own, sole responsibility, the accident lies with the management of the society," asserted the company's spokesman in communication with .

In an earlier clarification, an Iesco official had claimed that gates of the transformer were closed.

However, as the schoolchildren were playing, Wasay entered the transformer, the official had said. - Staff Reporter
