ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has prepared preliminary computerised electoral rolls of three provinces and work in remaining parts of the country will be completed by Feb 24.

“We have completed computerised voter lists of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Federally Administered Tribal Area and dispatched them to the Election Commission of Pakistan,” Nadra’s Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik told Dawn on Sunday.

He said the voter lists being prepared by the authority could be used for elections if these were held after May.

Giving details of incomplete electoral rolls, he said: “Punjab is the only province whose five districts have so far not been covered and we hope that we will dispatch Punjab’s lists by February 24.”

Under a legislation approved by parliament it has been made mandatory for people to show their Computerised National Identity Cards while getting themselves registered as voters and casting their ballots, therefore draft electoral are being prepared to register identity cards holders as voters.

The Nadra official said that once the complete voters list was sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan, a 21-day time would be given for their display and seeking objections.

“The objections will be received by the ECP in written form and they will be re-dispatched to Nadra for meeting objections and preparing a final voter lists,” he said.
