KARACHI, Feb 13: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan said on Monday that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani should step down because he had lost moral justification to continue in office after his indictment in the contempt case.

He was addressing a press conference at which the former chief organiser of PML-N in Sindh, Hafeezuddin, joined the PTI along with his group.

Criticising the PPP government and PML-N, Mr Khan reiterated his party’s support for judiciary and said the Supreme Court was moving cautiously.

He said Mr Gilani had committed the contempt of court only to save the nation’s money that had been stolen allegedly by Mr Asif Ali Zardari and kept in Swiss banks.

About his meeting with the MQM leaders on Sunday night, he said it was a random encounter at the wedding ceremony of the daughter of PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi.

He said his party would not join hands with any political party whose leadership faced corruption charges.

In reply to a question, Mr Khan said he had met Balochistan National Party chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Jameel Bugti and other Baloch leaders in Dubai and discussed the issue of Balochistan with them.

He said he would announce the formula for resolving the Balochistan problem during the PTI’s public gathering in Quetta next month.

He said opposition parties in parliament were not playing their role and the PML-N and the PPP were negotiating the 20th Constitution Amendment to serve their personal interest.
