LAHORE, Feb 12: The new westerly system covering Balochistan and northern parts of the country brought another spell of winter rain in Lahore on Sunday evening.

So far there have been mere drizzles in the city during the current winter.

The rain was light but it continued for quite some time. It was heavily overcast and the Met office expected more rain in the next 24 hours.

According to the Met office, the westerly system that entered Pakistan from Balochistan was extended up to Kashmir, generating rain and snowfalls over the hills.

Malamjabba received 1.5ft of snowfall, and Parachinar, Kalam and Murree 1ft by the evening. Snowfall was also reported in Balochistan.

Parachinar received 27mm of rain, Malamjabba 14mm, Balakot 12mm, Pattan 11mm, Dir and Murree 9mm (each), Rawalakot 8mm, Muzaffarabad, Garhi Dupatta, Jhang and Lower Dir 6mm (each), Kakul 5mm, Saidu Sharif, Kalam and Chakwal 4mm (each).

Parachinar was the coldest place in the country with a -13 degree Celsius minimum temperature.

The Met office forecast wide spread thunderstorm/rain with snowfall over the hills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

Scattered thunderstorm/rain with snowfall over the hills may occur in Quetta, Zhob and Sahiwal divisions. Thunderstorm/rain with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places of D.G Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sibbi and Kalat divisions.
