ISLAMABAD, Feb 10: It is a teacher who can bring about change in the conventional mindset so every child in a society should be sent to school.

Youth ambassador Malala Yousufzai said this on Friday during 6th annual Teacher Development Conference organised by Roots National Institute of Teacher Training and Education in collaboration with Change, an NGO working for the promotion of education.

Executive Vice Rector FC College Lahore Dr Cusrow J. Dubash, CEO Institute of Mind Sciences Dr Moiz Hussain, Executive Director, Roots Faisal Mushtaq and others participated in the conference.

“Before Swat operation, most of the girl schools were demolished by extremists and education was a dream for the girls.

Despite that some persons had courage and devotion as they managed to get education. If a girl like me can resist Taliban, why intellectuals, educationists and philanthropists cannot stand against forces who are trying to keep more than 50 per cent population of the country illiterate,” the youth ambassador asserted.

Speaking on the occasion, Faisal Mushtaq said: “This courageous young girl remained firm and refused to remain illiterate. I believe youth like Malala can work wonders and prove to be the driving force for growth and development in the country.”

Teacher’s Development Conference promised to provide the teachers with a platform to express themselves.

In the end, a scholarship of Rs3 million was given to Malala for studies. — A Reporter
