KARACHI, Feb 9: Four factory workers on Thursday night suffered burn injuries in a boiler explosion in a Jumma Goth factory and were shifted to a hospital where three of them died, officials said.

The police were not sure if the boiler contained water or chemicals which caused burns to the workers.

“It was a poultry-feed factory where the boiler was used to process trash fish,” said Ibrahim Hydri SHO Naik Muhammad Jakhrani.

He added all the victims were employees of the factory and area residents.

The police said that the victims were rushed to the burns unit of the Civil Hospital where one of them, 35-year-old Hazrat Ali, was pronounced dead on arrival.

While the three others — Saddam Husain, 25, Ameen, 27, and Adil, 36, — were admitted to the hospital.

Later, Saddam and Ameen also died during treatment, said the police and hospital sources.

They described the condition of the remaining burn patient as serious.

“He had also suffered serious burns.”

No case had been lodged with the Ibrahim Hydri police till late in the night.

Man found shot dead

A young man wearing jeans and jacket was found shot dead along Lyari River near Ferozabad Colony, police said.

The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, said Rizvia SHO Shahid Abbas.

He added that residents earlier informed the police about the presence of the body along the river. Subsequently, the police reached the spot and shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The body was later shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

The SHO said the police have not found any clue to victim's identity.

However, the police suspected that the victim might have been killed by bandits, because his wallet and other belongings were missing.
