Ata moves court

Published December 1, 2002

LAHORE, Nov 30: Former Test cricketer Ataur Rehman Saturday moved the Lahore High Court against the life ban imposed on him for playing cricket.

Former Justice of the LHC Malik Qayyum had recommended in his judgment released partially in early 2001 on match fixing allegations that Ata be banned from playing cricket at both international and domestic level for the rest of his life.

The former cricketer prayed in his petition moved through Ahmer Bilal Sufi Advocate that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) not provided him any opportunity to argue in his defence which was his legal right.

He had further refuted the court’s recommendations for imposing a life time ban on him from playing cricket abroad saying that his right to play abroad could not restricted and the court had no jurisdiction to do that.

The petitioner has pleaded that cricket is the only means of his livelihood and the ban orders should be reversed. The petition has been registered and would soon be listed for regular hearing.
