Sewerage system collapses

KHAIRPUR, Nov 30: The shopkeepers and residents held a demonstration here on Saturday against overflow of drain water on the city roads and streets.

Due to the collapse of the sewerage system, drain water has even entered the Civic Centre, Eid Bachat Bazaar, Nowa school, law college and Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School.

The people, particularly those going to mosques to offer prayers, are compelled to use alternate roads and streets to save themselves from drainage water.

They appealed to the district Nazim, Nafeesa Shah, to take urgent measures to drain out sewerage water from the roads.

Meanwhile, the municipal sanitary workers were trying hard at various places to clear the drainage lines but could not succeed.

The office-bearers of the Khairpur Citizens’ Alliance have demanded of the district government to seek assistance of experienced sanitation staff from other districts.
