HYDERABAD, Nov 30: The employees of the Sui Southern Gas Company under the banner of the Officers Action Committee held a protest demonstration outside the press club for the second consecutive day on Friday against the non-payment of their seven-month salaries.

The leaders of the action committee — Abdul Ghafoor Soomro, Mehran, Zulfiqar Abro, and Idrees Abbasi — warned that if the judgment of the Supreme Court and the Federal Service Tribunal were not implemented by the company management, they will expand their protest throughout Balochistan and Sindh provinces.

They said that they would hold a protest demonstration with their children on Dec 1.

They appealed to the other employees to hold protest demonstrations outside the press club every day.

SHC: Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, on Friday granted bail to a youth, Hidayat Ali, in a murder case and fixed the bail amount at Rs100,000.

The accused, Hidayat Ali, along with co-accused, Mushtaq, had committed the murder of Khan, Pesh Imam of the Sahu village, Qazi Ahmed, Nawabshah, on January 16, 2001 due to an enmity.

The accused had been arrested by the police on January 20, 2001 and firearms were recovered from their possession. The case was chargesheeted in the relevant court of jurisdiction and subsequently a bail application was moved in the court of the district and sessions judge, Nawabshah, which was rejected on July 9, 2002.

Subsequently, the accused submitted a bail application in the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, through Advocate Qurban Ali Chohan.

Mr Chohan claimed that the arrest of both the accused was illegal and tantamount to illegal detention as under the latest law a minor could not be arrested.
