LAHORE, Jan 31: An alleged robber was arrested in an injured condition after a shootout with the police in T&T Colony near Chauburji on Tuesday.

However, his accomplice managed to escape.

A number of residents gathered there after the arrest of the robber.

Civil Lines SP (Operation) Muhammad Omer Saeed told Dawn that ASI Faryad and constable Waqas of Mohafiz Force signalled two motorcyclists to stop near Chauburji.

The suspects violated traffic signal, accelerated the motorcycle and opened fire on policemen who were also riding a bike.

The policemen resorted to aerial firing and chased the suspects who dropped their bike and began running.

The policemen alerted the Rescue 15 and were joined by more cops.

One of the suspects entered T&T Colony and took shelter in a house.

The SP said police conducted a search in the entire colony and after finding a house locked from inside asked the insiders to come outside and surrender.

As some policemen went on roof of the house, a gun-totting man came outside and opened fire on the police. Police retaliated and managed to injure the suspect identified as Muhammad Asif of Nawankot.

Police also seized a weapon and three magazines from the injured and shifted him to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Omer Saeed said the suspects had snatched a cell phone from a citizen before they were stopped by policemen during patrolling. He said police were checking the record of the bike to confirm whether it was snatched or a stolen one.

An eight-year-old girl and three women were injured in a roof collapse incident in Jalal Park, Shahdara, on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital.

Parveen Khalid, 50, Tehmida Bilal, 24, Saima Haroon, 23, and Mehak Akhtar, 8, trapped inside the debris and were pulled out by locals and rescuers.

Rescuers said the roof of the single-storey house collapsed when the victims were apparently taking sun-bath on the roof. FIRE:

A fire broke out in a shop at Rehmat Chowk in Wapda Town on Tuesday, burning down valuables worth Rs200,000.

Rescue 1122 said the blaze erupted in the general store of Abdul Razzaque following a short circuit.
