RAWALPINDI, Jan 26: Three persons including two prisoners and an infant died in Adiala jail on Thursday, police said.
Zaheer Ahmed, one of the prisoners convicted in a murder case, died in the DHQ hospital. Jail Superintendent Malik Mushtaq said that Zaheer Ahmed who had been in the death cell was shifted to the hospital after his condition deteriorated as he had been suffering from fever for many days.While in the other incident, Mohammad Ijaz, 45, an under-trial prisoner in a fraud case of Gunjmandi police station had been admitted to the jail hospital due to tuberculosis. He died in the early hours of Thursday.
A two-month-old baby boy whose parents were facing jail term in a murder case, died in the jail barrack.
According to the jail superintendent, the baby was born in jail and also died there. The cause of his death was not known as his mother claimed that he was quite hale and hearty.
Meanwhile, a construction worker was killed as rubble collapsed on him at an under-construction building on Misrayal Road.
Mohammad Akbar, 35, a resident of Dhoke Hassu was at the construction site when the roof of the double storey building caved in killing him on the spot.
The body of the victim was pulled out of the rubble and handed over to his family.
