ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: The PPP has condemned the indefinite postponement of the inaugural session of the Sindh Assembly, saying the action lacks in morality and legality.

The acting secretary-general of the Pakistan People’s Party, Mian Raza Rabbani, in a statement issued here on Thursday said the indefinite postponement of the inaugural session of the Sindh Assembly by the regime at the request of an individual amounted to “ridiculing the mandate of the people of Sindh, and is aimed at keeping the majority party from its legitimate right” to form government.

“The B team of the generals which has been cobbled together in Islamabad under the label of the PML-Q government, unfortunately, has started on a note negating all canons of democracy, legality and morality.

“First, it formed its government at the centre by a majority of one vote only after state apparatus was employed to create turncoats in a mainstream political party through bribery, coercion and intimidation.

“Now repeating the National Assembly experiment it has indefinitely postponed the Sindh Assembly session to buy time to form the provincial government through gerrymandering, fraud, coercion, intimidation and bribery”, he observed.

He said this was the most undemocratic practice of the government which was bound to increase resentment among the people of Sindh who would feel that they were being disenfranchised. This did not augur well for the federation.

“We call upon the regime not to play with the sensitivities of the people of Sindh and immediately call the session of the provincial assembly.”

The party also urged the human rights bodies and all democracy-loving people of the country to raise their voice against “this perversion of democracy through high-handedness and immorality.”
