Sheikh Rashid briefed on Pemra

ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Federal Minister of Information and Media Development Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was briefed on Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Wednesday in the Ministry of Information & Media Development.

Chairman PEMRA Mian M. Javed gave the presentation to the minister and highlighted the functions, initiatives and the future plans of the authority.

Secretary Information Syed Anwar Mahmood, Member PEMRA Salim Gul Sheikh and other officials of PEMRA also attended the presentation. The authority was established in March to provide a larger choice to the people about electronic media in the country. It has the mandate to license, monitor, regulate and facilitate the establishment and operation of Radio, Television and cable TV stations throughout the country in the private sector.

Since its inception, PEMRA has so far issued 22 FM Radio station licences that would be on air in the next six to twelve months.
