KARACHI, Nov 27: Water supply to different blocks of Gulshan-i-Iqbal was badly affected on Wednesday following an 18-inch dia pipeline passing through Gulshan Chowrangi burst on Tuesday.

It was for the second time during this month that the same line had burst. Earlier, it happened about a fortnight back and was repaired on Saturday last.

People residing in the vicinity of Gulshan Chowrangi said that water from the damaged pipeline has spread to the nearby lanes, causing hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic.

Another pipeline passing beneath the Rashid Minhas Flyover, near a fast food restaurant, had been leaking for the last one week, the residents said, adding that the situation was not only creating water shortage in the area, it also turned the nearby road slippery as result of which motorcyclists often slip.

SHORTAGE: Water shortage continued to persist in various parts of the city on Wednesday.

Most of such localities were those where the KWSB had suspended the supply only for Tuesday but residents of the affected areas complained that supply was not restored till 7pm on Wednesday.

Such complaints were received from different blocks of Clifton, Bhutta Village, Gizri, Delhi Colony, Punjab Colony, and Shireen Jinnah Colony.

Acute water shortage also continued to persist for the third consecutive day on Wednesday in parts of PECHS Block 2, Overseas Cooperative Housing Society and Al-Hamra Society.

The other localities which went dry on Wednesday as a part of the KWSB’s plan of diverting Indus water to the localities hooked to the Hub source included Old City Area, Garden East, Garden West, Soldier Bazaar, Saddar, Shikarpur Colony, Cosmopolitan Society and parts of Lyari.

Water supply to Landhi, Korangi, Defence Housing Authority, National Refinery, Karachi Port Trust, Pakistan Railways, PAF (Korangi) Base and its adjoining areas would remain suspended on Thursday.

Complaints of water shortage have also been received from different sectors of Orangi Town, including Ghausia Baluch Colony, Sector 15-D’s Thorani Goth, Bangla Bazaar, Sector 14 and Block L of Sector 10.

Criticizing the KWSB officials for not ensuring uninterrupted supply to their localities on their turn which comes after every three or four days, the residents of the affected localities urged the city Nazim to direct the KWSB officials to take immediate measures for ensuring adequate supply, or else they would remain without water even during Eid holidays.
