KARACHI, Oct 9: The City Government has decided to constitute advisory committees for further beautification and development of existing parks and playgrounds and to ensure participation of citizens for creation of new ones.

This was decided in a briefing by the Parks Department of City Government to Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan here on Tuesday.

The briefing was also attended by Naib Nazim, DCO and other officials of city government.

Naimatullah called for launching a coordinated tree-plantation campaign in the city with public participation to control pollution.

He opined that such drives can be made a greater success with the cooperation of different city NGOs, federations of various communities and associations.

He asked the EDO Parks to submit a plan within 10 days so that the same could be put into implementation at the earliest.

The Nazim also called for a complete list of encroachments on city parks so that a vigorous campaign could be launched for their removal.

POLICE REFORMS: Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony at Arts Council of Pakistan, organized by Jam Nagar, Howariya Memon Jamat and Youth Organization, Naimatullah Khan called for reforming the police system.

He said it is the responsibility of the police to provide protection to the people but they are not fulfilling this responsibility.

Speaking with reference to slain businessman, Abdul Razaq Tasty, the nazim said this was an act of a gang and efforts are being made to dig them out and bring them to book.

He appreciated the services being rendered by Memon community in the field of education and on account of this they enjoy a singular position in Pakistan.—APP
